Mackinac Straits Health System Campus
From a site overlooking Lake Huron the hospital combines a critical access hospital with a tribal health clinic and rural health clinic to serve the needs of Straits area residents and visitors.

In 2008 Mackinac Straits Health System, Inc. (MSHS) began to build a state-of-the-art hospital and emergency medical center on a healthcare campus of 16 acres. The hospital building includes the functions that best respond to the community’s priority needs: a physical rehabilitation center, dialysis and infusion departments, an emergency room, and patient rooms. Today, MSHS serves as a center of operation for 12 physicians and mid-level providers, including an internal medicine physician, family practice, pediatrician, and oncologist. MSHS has also coordinated a visiting physician program within the hospital and in five satellite clinics throughout the county and surrounding area. Visiting physician specialties include Cardiology, Dermatology, OB/GYN, Orthopedic, General Surgery, Podiatry, Urology, Pain Management, Rheumatology, Disability Evaluation and Pulmonary Health. The hospital and all services are also accessible to patients from the Sault Tribal Health Center (STHC), which occupies the north wing of the hospital building. The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians donated the land for the MSHS medical campus and gave a $1 million gift to the capital campaign and, annually beginning in 2002, donates a portion of the mandated two percent of funds earned from the St. Ignace casino to help subsidize the MSHS dialysis department. Evergreen Living Center is a 48-bed skilled nursing facility for seniors and people with disabilities, which are linked to the hospital by a corridor to provide access by patients to hospital services. This new center provides private rooms for our residents.
